Otto Wagner's 1906 design of the Postparkasse Bentwood Armchair with veneer seat is an extreme shape synthesis. Minimalism, exclusivity and an eye for detail. The Postparkasse bentwood series was designed for the headquarters of the Post Office Savings Bank in Vienna, Austria. It represents a clear expression of modern Viennese art. The solid bentwood beechwood structure is both embracing and ergonomic. This items introduced a new concept to the Postparkasse series - the use of wood with a square, not round cross section, to create a more rigorous design. The complete range includes a bentwood armchair, chair, stool and bookshelf.
