Tulip Table FAQs
What are the Tulip Bases Made Of?
Our Tulip Table bases are cast in Italy from aluminum, the original material used by Saarinen for the Pedestal Collection. This cast aluminum is finished with an epoxy paint that is very durable against scratching an chipping.
What Tops are Available?
Bauhaus 2 Your House is proud to offer a wide range of laminate, marble, and porcelain tops for our Saarinen Tulip Tables. Some information on the range of finishes can be found below.
- Laminate Tops
Laminate tops utilize a modern technology referred to as liquid laminate over an MDF substrate. This one-inch thick top has a homogenous finish on the top, sides, and bottom of the top. It is very resistant to staining and scratches. The finish of the black and white laminates is matte in appearance and works well with both the matte and glossy bases. These tables are 1” thick. - Natural Marbles
Natural marble tops come from several different quarries in Italy and Spain. All marbles are considered Grade A and are hand chosen based upon factors including beauty and strength. Many of the natural marbles offered are available with a polished/glossy or matte/honed finish. Glossy finishes are highly reflective and may contain small pitting or fissures. This is a natural feature of these stones. The natural marbles are protected with a natural sealant and coated with 2-3 layers of high-quality clear marble wax. The sealant and wax help protect these tops from staining and etching, but spills should still be cleaned up as soon as possible. Each of these stones is very porous, and a periodic application of quality clear marble wax will help keep the table looking beautiful for years. All marble tops are ¾” thick. - Coated Marbles
Coated marbles use a thin polyester coating to make the top impervious to spills. Though this coating is very strong, it can be damaged by sharp objects. The application of this finish typically requires an additional two weeks of production.
About Standard Delivery
Delivery of small tables (side tables and coffee tables <24” in size) is performed by Fed Ex Ground. A single box containing the base and top are included. These packages can weigh up to 50 lbs.
Delivery of larger tables is done by a common carrier. Tabletops are in a wooden skeleton crate fastened vertically to a pallet. The base and fastening hardware are in a separate box with assembly instructions.
Curbside delivery of larger tables is included in the price of the product meaning the delivery driver will place the pallet in the first available dry area. Drivers will typically not assist with removal from the pallet or carrying items into a building.
Packages must be inspected before the bill of lading is signed. If there is any visible damage to the packaging, it must be noted on the bill of lading. Additional instructions can be found at this link.
White Glove Delivery
White glove delivery is also available for Saarinen Tulip Tables. This service provides an appointment for delivery, assembly of the table in your room of choice, and removal of any debris. This service can be added at the time of purchase or over the phone before the table ships.

Maintenance
Tulip Table bases can be cleaned with a mild soap and warm water. It is important not to use any abrasive on this surface.
Marble may be stone, but it is porous and stains easily. Wipe off anything spilled on marble immediately, just as you would from a wooden surface. Use coasters under beverage glasses, plates, and vases to avoid moisture rings. Occasionally wipe down marble surfaces with lukewarm water and wipe dry with a clean cloth.
Red wine, orange juice, and tomato sauces are common culprits, but even milk and water can stain if left on the surface.
You may also use a cleaner made specifically for marble natural stone. (Be smart about using any cleaners ‐‐ "natural" cleaners are often citrus‐based, and citrus is acidic. Look for ph‐neutral cleaning substances.) Avoid over‐spray from cleaning other areas ‐‐ floors, windows, cabinets.
Your marble table comes sealed and with a good coating of wax ‐‐ cleaning solvents may erode this, so be careful! Depending on use, you may want to re‐apply a non‐yellowing silicone‐based wax of a kind used for marble, once or twice a year. We have had excellent success with the range of products from Tenax (www.tenax4you.com). They offer a wide range of products for waxing and stain removal to keep your table looking great!
