Eileen Gray Roquebrune Chair

Eileen Gray Roquebrune Chair

The simplicity of the Eileen Gray Roquebrune Chair is deceptive. In reality, the Roquebrune Chair has a number of mitered joints, crossbars and welded features that make production slow and difficult. This model may have been designed for Eileen Gray's E-1027 home in France, however the Roquebrune Chair does not appear in any of the photographs of this house. Instead, it is very visible in the photographs of Tempe a Pailla, the house of Eileen Gray at Castellar, in the south of France. There it appears with a painted frame as a terrace chair.

Though Eileen Gray was not recognized for much of her design career, she is widely recognized as one of the most influential designers in the 20th Century. Her designs are considered luxurious, opulent, and what many consider the center of the modern design movement.

Made in Italy.
