Donald Deskey Desk Lamp

This iconic Art Deco Table Lamp (circa 1927–1931) was designed by American industrial design pioneer Donald Deskey and produced by Deskey-Vollmer, Inc.  A definitive example of the Machine Age aesthetic, the lamp embodies the sleek, streamlined style popular during the interwar period. It is highly regarded as a significant piece of American design history.

The lamp's striking design showcases a blend of materials and forms: a solid, painted-black wooden base supports an arching spine of chrome-plated metal, from which a swiveling hemispherical chrome shade is suspended. This vertical composition and use of modern materials are often seen as a tribute to the era's skyscraper architecture.
