The original design was exhibited at the first Bauhaus exhibition in 1923 and reflects the school's developing approach to modern textile design. A lively arrangement of geometric shapes, contrasting colors, and repeating forms creates a strong visual rhythm across the length of the runner.

The composition demonstrates Stölzl's interest in bringing artistic experimentation into the practical discipline of weaving. Rather than treating textiles as purely decorative, she explored how color, structure, and pattern could become integral elements of modern design. The elongated proportions make the rug particularly well suited to hallways, entries, and other narrow spaces.

Gunta Stölzl was the only woman to become a master at the Bauhaus. As head of its weaving workshop, she helped transform the program into one of the school's most productive and influential departments. Her teaching and experimentation with materials and industrial production shaped the future of modern textile design; Anni Albers was among the artists who studied under her.

Christopher Farr's CF Editions collection recreates the historic design as a hand-knotted rug in handspun Ghazni wool, preserving the geometric character of Stölzl's original work.

Made by Christopher Farr of London.

Dimensions: Width 31 1/2" Depth 126" (80 × 320 cm)

Materials: Handspun Ghazni wool.
