The A150 bentwood stool is a legendary design created by August Thonet around 1985. The bentwood stool exhibits the only a small extent of bentwood bending technology applied to furniture it its elegant, yet function back. The sturdy and beautiful design make it a favorite among homeowners and interior designers.
In 1852 Michael Thonet received a patent relating to the curving, cutting and regluing of woods. This helped secure the foundation for Michael Thonet and his sons to create a mass production bentwood furniture facility in Vienna, Austria. This factory soon quickly became too small, and the company created an additional factory in the Moldavian mountains. The first year of production saw about 10,000 bentwood chairs being made. By 1860, the factory was producing over 50,000 chairs per year. Today it is estimated that over 50 million of Michael Thonet's bentwood furniture items have been manufactured in various factories around the world since the inception back in the mid-1800s.
Bauhaus2YourHouse presents bentwood chairs designed by Michael Thonet and his sons, as manufactured using historic techniques. Few changes have been necessary over the last 150 years. The bentwood factories still follow the 19th century production methods developed by Michael Thonet to produce stylistically accurate, handsome, and sturdy bentwood chairs, stools, tables, and accessories.
