Born in Augsburg, Germany in 1881, Otto Blumel studied architecture at Munich's Technical University.  Blumel later studied painting at the "Debitzsch" school.  From 1907 to 1914 he was the head of design department of "Vereinigte Werkstaetten fur Kunst im Handwerk" in Munich.
