Michael Thonet's steam bending technique of bentwood chairs marked a revolution in design as well as mass production. Michael Thonet stands out as a designer and pioneer both in mass production and in design as he artistically explored the new forms and unique qualities of his newly invented technique. Over time these chairs became more and more ornamental as seen in this "713" bentwood chair.
