Pierre Paulin is widely considered one of the most influential designers of the 1950s and 1960s. His work on furniture items while freelancing for Artifort has gone on to be mid-century classical, and is still widely sold today. The Tulip, Mushroom and Tongue chair are among the most popular items from this French designer.
Born in Paris in 1927, Paulin studied at the School Camondo in 1951. By 1953 he had already exhibiting his designs at such shows at the Ideal Home Exhibition. By 1954 he had a variety of his furniture designs in production by Thonet-France. Many regard the greatest period of his career as being the time he spent with Artifort from 1958 through the 1960s where a wide range of contemporary furniture was developed.
