Description :

Eero Saarinen is most known for his development of the pedestal collection, including a very hard to find piece, this ashtray. In the 1940's Saarinen developed the pedestal form during his research for a competition announced by M.O.M.A. (The Museum of Modern Art) that was looking for an "organic design in home furnishing collection" in which Eero Saarinen participated along with Charles Eames. With this competition his most infamous style was born.

During his successful career, Eero Saarinen was designed structrues that have become landmarks of American architecture. Such projects as the Arch in St. Louis, the Trans World Airlines Building at JFK Airport, and the terminal at Dulles Airport in Virginia have become symbols of his legendary creative architectural abilities.

Saarinen designed this pedestal ashtray in accordance with his tulip series. It is one of the only accessories that was ever put into mass production designed by Saarinen.
